Tackling Diversity!

Disciple : Master, what do you think is the greatest challenge in this world?

Master : Attaining unity in diversity..building bridges across people of different nationalities, races,  cultures and belief systems.

Disciple : Is that even possible ? I mean I don’t see how humanity can ever unite. Just look at the polarised world we live in now. So much hate and anger because of our different opinions and upbringing.

Master : Possible it is.. Easy, it is not.

Disciple : How can that be achieved? I really want to know!

Master : By attaining individual unity in each person’s diversity first.

Disciple : Hmm.. I don’t grasps what you mean.

Master : All of us have many aspects within ourselves…including the dark and light quotient. Under certain circumstances, a human can be very kind and compassionate. But under a harsher environment, it may trigger a person to succumb to his dark side by behaving in a malevolent way. So all of us accumulate merits and demerits in our consciousness. Most people have no problems taking pride in their good behaviour but won’t want to acknowledge the ‘skeletons in the closet’ , so to speak. So the very critical step to take is to make peace with all aspects of ourselves..both the good and bad.

Disciple : I think that is a tall order because of our ego.

Master : The ego is our dark side, is it not? And if humans keep labelling ego as bad and something not to be dealt with, it just perpetuates. On the hand if we see ego as our teacher or the catalyst to help us be a better person, it turns into an ally. So if we just admit that we all do have ego issues and acknowledge all the poor choices that we have made, humility is attained. And then through forgiveness and acceptance, we make peace with all the diverse aspects of ourselves.

Disciple : And that leads to inner peace, I suppose ?

Master : Exactly! For how can we create an outer world that is peaceful when we aren’t peaceful within?

Disciple : Wow…now I comprehend… but still the task at hand is extremely difficult.

Master : It is only as difficult as one chooses it to be. And that has always been the plan on Earth… a planet of duality inhabited by humans with free choice. But with love and forgiveness for others and self, all is achievable. In other words, All Is Well in those who embrace the dark and light as just experiences for our soul growth. In short, diversity is not our enemy ..but our master teacher.
