The EGO Defined?

“In order to have an individual experience on Earth, you need some sense of the ego.. because part of being an Earthling at this moment is having an ego…so if you didn’t have an ego you wouldn’t be having a full Earth experience.. you have a more enjoyable experience if you can quiet the ego and find your own way back to Source. Ego is a projection of the mind but it’s also …what we need to anchor ourselves as an individual… it’s fine to be individuated as a self. The problem comes when there’s … a sense of separation from others or it’s a way of feeling superior to others..and when it’s playing it’s role properly, it’s just helping you ..to have a personality and identity .. but it just can become very inflated. You can become very self-centred ..and you can become very isolated from others. You have to remember.. it’s NOT your whole self and it’s there to make you a distinct individual.. It’s not to make you separated because everybody really is One. You know, it’s all part of The One .. The Source.”

I opine the above gives a good explanation of the human ego. Years ago, I read something similar from another hypnotherapist, the late Dr. Michael Newton who wrote incredibly informative books, Journey Of Souls & Destiny Of Souls, based on his regression of numerous clients who recalled their previous incarnations and their existence in the Spirit World, including the planning of their soul’s journey of this present life. It was explained, that souls were given choices of bodies to incarnate into and when the baby is being formed in the womb, it carries its own personality which the soul has to assimilate with. This helps explain why a human can have two conflicting thoughts now and then. One is the voice of the ego (mind based) whereas the other stems from our higher aspect/higher self.

Lee Carroll, a former American engineer who later became a channeler of divine information (from Kryon) has said that we can never get rid of the ego for as long as we live as a human. The only thing we can do is to manage it. Thus our experience on Earth is determined by the choices we make every single moment. Do we allow our ego to run rampant or do we awaken to what its true purpose is and manage it so that we manifest a life that we truly desire? This I suppose is what spiritual teachers or gurus speak of when they teach mindfulness or self-awareness.

(Note: The theme about remembering who we are has been key topic of my blog since its launch more than a decade ago.)
